#Marketing: The Heavy Chef Project's Latest Advertisement on The Daily Maverick

Invite: Heavy Chef March (CT) - Focusing on Security

Invites have opened for our next Heavy Chef session in Cape Town focused on internet and mobile security practice and trends. The invite:

Security and Marketing

Last week alone, I received three emails from ABSA informing me that there were several attempts to hack into my ABSA bank account. This would have been unsettling if it weren’t for the fact that I don’t bank with ABSA. Last year we saw an alarming rise in hacking attempts on well known blogs, websites and forums across the interwebs. It’s a scary thing being in our industry when you realise that your hard work can be accessed by some Taiwanese dude sitting in a basement in Taipei.

With this in mind, we invited Justin Stanford to talk to us about security in next week's Heavy Chef Session. He’s an authority since he is the owner/investor of both  ESET and FireID, two of the planet’s best known internet and mobile security firms. Justin will share with us his journey, his goals with the company, internet and mobile security trends, and why marketers should be worried about security of their campaigns.

On the Heavy Chef front, we're excited to kick off with some exciting events of our own (with a slight shift in schedule). The first Heavy Chef Session of 2010 - entitled "A Taste of the Future: Digital Trends to Expect" - is being held on the 2nd February at the Deloitte Campus in Woodmead. Our speakers are going to be Justin Spratt and Louis Janse van Rensburg, both of whom are going to be discussing important digital trends to expect in the next 12 and 24 months.

NOTE: The Cape Town Session previously scheduled for 26th January has been postponed to the end of Feb. We'll be sending a new invitation early next month.

Event Invite > Heavy Chef October: Double Whammy of Digital Goodness (incl. @VinnyLingham speaking at HC Jozi!)

Invite to next month’s Heavy Chef events in Jozi & CT from World Wide Creative’s CEO, Creative Director, Ideate blogger & Elvis-impersonator Fred Roed

Heavy Chef October: Johannesburg and Cape Town

We’ve got another double whammy of Heavy Chef Sessions in October. Recently, things have been a little quiet here, since we’ve been busy (new site, new courses, new people) but we’re excited to announce two more sessions coming up promptly. The first is a replay of the one we did in March, with Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur, Vinny Lingham, talking on “Raising Capital for New Media Start-Ups”. Due to our Johannesburg community being suitably miffed that they didn’t get a chance to attend, we’re holding the session in Deloitte’s offices in Rivonia.

Want to attend?

The Johannesburg Session is going to be held at Deloitte’s head office in Woodmead. If you'd like to join us, please email Yolandi (click here) or phone the studio at 0861 932226.

Venue: Building 33, Deloitte Place, The Woodlands, 20 Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, Johannesburg
Date: Monday, 5th October 2009
Time: 6 for 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost to attend: The Session is free, however, seats are so precious, so limited and coveted, that there will be a Nigerian bouncer at the door who will appraise you on the spot and make a decision at the door whether you’re fit to attend.

There are 50 seats available, on a first-come first-serve basis.

The venue will be provided by Deloitte, wine by Perdeberg and the beer by Corona and Carlsberg. For the non-alcohol drinkers, Glaceau Mineral Water will add their unique splash of colour to proceedings.

In the next few weeks, we will send out a newsletter for the second session, on October 28th, entitled “Mobile Marketing: Amazing Tools and Case Studies” in Cape Town. Watch this space.

Look forward to seeing you at an upcoming Session!

All the best,

Fred, Mike and the rest of the Chefs

The next Heavy Chef Session is in Johannesburg: "Youth Marketing - Where Are We and What Has Worked Before"

The next Heavy Chef Session is in Johannesburg: “Youth Marketing - Where Are We and What Has Worked Before“

The youth market has always been a tough nut to crack. Fickle. Trend conscious. Unpredictable. Notoriously outspoken.

So, how can we reach ‘em? We’ve asked some leaders in the field of Youth Marketing to come and share some insights with us.

Part One: Painting a Picture of Today's Youth

August’s Heavy Chef Session will firstly focus on painting a picture of the youth, where they’re heading and how technology fits into their lives, backed up by solid, well-researched stats and insights.

Part 1 of the Session will be a holistic overview, presented by Jane Lyne, MD Youth Dynamix, and Andrea Kraushaar, Youth Strategy And Research Director at Youth Dynamix. Both Jane and Andrea bring a wealth of experience around youth marketing.

Part Two: Successful Case Studies using Technology to Target the Youth

Then, we’ll look at some case studies for using social networking and mobile to engage with youth.

Part 2 will be a practical close-up of what’s worked, and what lessons can we learn in order to reach a youthful audience.

This part of the session will be presented by Marc Kornberger: Managing Partner at Student Village. Marc co-founded Student Village and has seen it rise from an ambitious project 8 years ago to a bustling online community of over 120 000 members.

Want to attend?

The Johannesburg Session is going to be held in JWT's entertainment room (on the third floor) in Rivonia. If you'd like to join us, please email Yolandi (click here) or phone the studio at 0861 932226.

Venue: JWT Building, cnr Rivonia & 12th ave, Johannesburg.
Date: Wednesday, 26th August 2009
Time: 6 for 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost to attend: The Session is free, but you may pay the price of being singled out to answer relevant questions about youth culture topics, about which you will have no clue and thus be hopelessly exposed as ‘so 10 years ago’.

There are 50 seats available, on a first-come first-serve basis.

The venue will be provided by Youth Dynamix, wine by Perdeberg and the beer by Corona (with Carlsberg a tasty new addition to our sponsor list). And, for those non-alcohol drinkers, we're proud to announce that Glaceau Mineral Water will also be present.

Check out the new Heavy Chef website...

It’s a real challenge keeping these newsletters short, since there are a bunch of things happening at The Heavy Chef Project. So…the easiest thing to do is to use bullet points for easy digestion:

  • We’ve launched a new Heavy Chef website (check it out here) with a video gallery of previous Heavy Chef Sessions.
  • We’ve launched the Heavy Chef Courses (here – first one starting today!)
  • We’re about to launch our new World Wide Creative site (next week)
  • We’ve got a killer line-up of speakers for the next few months (keep reading the Heavy Chef newsletter for updates)
  • We got some of our best feedback ever from last month’s Heavy Chef Session, featuring Justin Gomes of advertising agency FoxP2 – and so, we’re working on bringing Gomes’ presentation to Johannesburg (again, watch this space).

Bye for now!

We'll be back shortly to inform you about future sessions (btw, the next Cape Town Session is happening in September). Keep reading the blog for updates, watch the videos, and thanks for all the support so far.

All the best,
Fred, Mike and the rest of the Chefs!
